This research in Manitoba is part of an international research project on young people's pathways into agriculture in Canada, India, China, and Indonesia. 48 interviews with a diverse group of young farmers in rural Manitoba, offer a counter-narrative, that young people actually do want to farm and they are motivated by a variety of factors, including, a love for the work in farming and the lure of a quiet life in close proximity to nature. Our research highlights the different ways that first generation farmers and continuing young farmers get into farming, the factors and forces that helped them along the way, their challenges, and the strategies they adopt to remain on the land.
